Margins and Borders

On the cultural sociology of languages
There is a distinct generative magic that lives at the borders. It is found in the capital that is generated in the movement of people, the movement of texts that cross the border and are translated and take on different contexts and reach new audiences. This is the magic that is generated by that travel and the crossing back and forth of language.
Unlike steady state wherein all cultures are equal and everything is in harmony, it is interesting where they clash and one is brought to wonder, ‘hmmm....how do you translate that’? That stretch and play with language to make those untranslatable moments legible is a scholarship I'm finding myself drawn to; this interdisciplinary at play of formal logic, philosophy, ethics.

On learning Japanese
Languages and cultures are just different ways of experiencing the world and different ways of moving through it.
The beauty of learning a new language is that while it feels like an enormous undertaking and it intimidates you, it makes you appreciate the complexity of the ones you know already.
I began my Japanese language journey in the summer of 2025 and completed my N5 certification pursuing the foundational exam at the Department of Foreign Languages (Ranade Institute), University of Pune, India. For N4, I am pursuing a structured self-study approach. I'm looking to explore aspects of Metacognition along this pursuit and document my findings.
